UK house prices rise at fastest pace since 2007 but boom predicted to end

House prices surged at the fastest rate since 2007 in 2021, according to the latest Halifax House Price Index.

The prospect that interest rates may rise further this year to tackle rising inflation, and increasing pressures on household budgets, suggests that house price growth will slow considerably.

Home mover activity at all-time high, says Rightmove

It was the busiest Christmas ever for those wanting to move home because of buyer demand soaring compared to the same period in 2020.

Rightmove have reported that buyer demand was up 23 per compared to last Christmas. The property platform also recorded its highest ever number of new sellers on Boxing Day, with the period between Boxing Day and New Year breaking records for home-mover activity.
