House Price index – Halifax May 2021
Average house price hits a record high of £261,74 and has increased by £22,000 in the past 12 months, according to Halifax’s house price index. This represents a 9.5 per cent annual rise in value, the largest gain in nearly 7 years.
First homes scheme launched with 30% discount for first time buyers
A scheme to help people purchase their own home at a discount of at least 30% launched earlier this month by the government.
First Homes aims to help young people and key workers – such as NHS and veterans – get on the property ladder by supporting them to buy property below the market value.
Renting now cheaper than buying a home, Hamptons says
As a result of the pandemic, it is now cheaper to rent a home than buy one, for the first time since December 2014, according to research by Hamptons.

The mediation is free for landlords and tenants involved in housing possession court cases with the aim to resolve the situation without the need for a face-to-face court hearing.
